Observed Trends in the South Asian Monsoon Low?Pressure Systems and Rainfall Extremes Since the Late 1970s

چکیده
The core Indian monsoon region receives more than half of the rainfall extremes from low-pressure systems (LPSs), which typically form over Bay Bengal and propagate upstream against time-mean low-level westerlies. Yet, relationship between trends LPSs remains uncertain. Using two tracking algorithms reanalyses-derived LPSs, we find that LPS activity extreme exhibit coherent during post-1979 satellite era. Over time, preferentially into south-central India rather north-central India, imparting a corresponding dipole footprint in extremes. Consistent with existing theories diabatic heating is instrumental shifting west-southwestward, traveling through have stronger updrafts on their west-southwestern flank those passing India. increased frequency propagating likely due to strengthened cross-equatorial moisture transport, favors storm ascents.

Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall: Implications of Contrasting Trends in the Spatial Variability of Means and Extremes
India's agricultural output, economy, and societal well-being are strappingly dependent on the stability of summer monsoon rainfall, its variability and extremes. Spatial aggregate of intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall events over Central India are significantly increasing, while at local scale they are spatially non-uniform with increasing spatial variability. The reasons behind such ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Precipitating Convective Systems in the South Asian Monsoon
Eight years of Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Precipitation Radar (PR) data show how convective systems of different types contribute to precipitation of the South Asian monsoon. The main factor determining the amount of precipitation coming from a specific system is its horizontal size. Convective intensity and/or number of embedded convective cells further enhance its precipitatio...
متن کاملEast Asian summer monsoon precipitation variability since the last deglaciation
The lack of a precisely-dated, unequivocal climate proxy from northern China, where precipitation variability is traditionally considered as an East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) indicator, impedes our understanding of the behaviour and dynamics of the EASM. Here we present a well-dated, pollen-based, ~20-yr-resolution quantitative precipitation reconstruction (derived using a transfer function) ...
